Dandrieu Giovagnoni African Art

In 1977, Chantal Dandrieu and Fabrizio Giovagnoni opened their first gallery in Rome. By organizing numerous thematic exhibitions, often in collaboration with various public institutions, they helped promote African classical arts in Italy, particularly in Rome. In the early years, many of the works were collected during their travels in Africa, especially in Togo, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Benin. From the late 1980s onward, most pieces have come from European and American private collections or from the international art market.

Since 2001, the gallery has presented an exhibition in Paris each year and, since 2005, has participated in the Parcours des Mondes fair. Each Paris exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue. In 2009, Chantal Dandrieu and Fabrizio Giovagnoni published, in Italian and French, the book Passione d’Africa, l’arte africana nelle collezioni italiane, with contributions by Egidio Cossa and Jean-Louis Paudrat (Officina Libraria, Milan, 2009).

Chantal Dandrieu is an accredited expert with the CECOA (European Chamber of Expert Advisors in Fine Art), Paris.
