Galerie Natsara

This former shirt shop, with the charm of old Paris, was established in the early 20th century in the pure tradition of the luxury boutiques of the Opéra Garnier district. The period wood paneling is still visible and gives the space both intimacy and warmth, while beautifully serving its new function as a cabinet of curiosities. The Haussmann district, a business area close to the Stock Exchange and major banks, is nonetheless closely associated with the world of art and culture. In addition to the many art galleries in the nearby 8th arrondissement, it was historically the district of intimate theatres in former times. Between bourgeois neighborhoods and business districts, people would come here to be entertained—and sometimes to indulge themselves… Not far from the Richelieu-Drouot auction rooms, it is very easy to visit me, and it is always with great pleasure that I share my passion for arts from elsewhere and from the past. natsara or nasara = “The House of Men” (bismila, an Oceanic dialect), is the sacred place, the gathering space where people come together to talk and debate, dance, sing, make music, drink and smoke, but also and above all to be initiated. The gods and ancestral spirits are present there. It is therefore natural to find fetishes and masks, tribal insignia and other ritual objects there. Smaller than the Musée de l’Homme, the Maison des Hommes gallery aims to foster the discovery of the different ethnic groups that populate our vast world.
