Heart For Darkness was founded by Lieven Storme, one of the world's leading art dealers for vintage African Photography. The gallery maintains a large inventory of vintage African photographs and traditional African art of museum quality. Most of the pieces are published and have documented provenances. Lieven Storme started in 1997 as an art consultant for contemporary art and was consultant for the start-up or expansion of numerous private and corporate collections. As founder-director of Art Concern, he organised more than 40 exhibitions. These included individual exhibitions with work by Walker Evans, Robert Mapplethorpe, Joel Peter Witkin and Jan Vanriet, as well as various group exhibitions with work by Georg Baselitz, Thomas Joshua Cooper, Tony Cragg, Katharina Grosse, Tracy Moffatt, David Nash, Thomas Ruff and Stephen Shore. In addition, with the 'Unlimited' exhibitions, he offered a platform to many young artists. In 2004, Storme was appointed artistic director of the international art fair Lineart. After a facelift of the fair, with the introduction of The Fortis Young Ones Award, Belgium's Calling, Lineart Playground and an important section of tribal art, he left the organisation to specialise himself in vintage African photography and tribal art.
